Some of my most treasured Christmas memories are that of creating and crafting with my Mother and Grand Mothers during the holiday season. From a simple Christmas cookie recipe, to homemade crocheted snowflake ornaments. In carrying on in that tradition, my girls and I gather in the kitchen with dishes piled high, Christmas music blaring and we give it our all to create a homemade gift for family and friends. This year, that tradition seems to grow more practical as shipping complications seem inevitable.
Cinnamon Applesauce ornaments have been a go- to of mine for many years. Mostly because I am addicted to the sweet scent they leave even after years of being made. Now, I must warn you these ornaments resemble the looks of a delicious Christmas cookie but are not intended for consumption. Just for looks and smells. So put on some jolly Christmas music on, hot chocolate simmering on the stove and enjoy this simple recipe with the magic of creating homemade gifts with the ones you love.
- 3 cups applesauce
- 3 cups ground cinnamon
Step One: Mix applesauce and cinnamon together until it is thick enough to hold a form when cut into cookie cutter shapes. Flatten the mixture and a flat surface with a rolling pin and cut into cookie cutter shapes. If using as an ornament use a tooth pick to make a small hole for string.
Step Two: Place cookie shapes on a cookie sheet to dry for 3 to 4 days depending on the size and thickness of the cookies or bake at 200 degrees for 2 to 3 hours until dried out. Use for ornaments on trees or gifts.
That's it! Super simply and easy to do– with no reliance on finicky shipping issues...If you create some of these ornaments with your family I'd love to see them! Tag me @mountainmamafarms on instagram so I can see your creations.
